The Sirignani Family
This magical place was discovered by Giuseppe Sirignani way back in 1977, in June, when a surveyor named M. telephoned the local head of the Assisi city police, who still recounts the tale thus:
“M. called me and asked me if I could please accompany him and a prospective buyer to Caparrocchie (the old name for the farmstead now known as Le Silve). And so, at midday Mr Sirignani, the surveyor and I arrived at Caparrocchie. The sight was depressing to say the least: brambles had run riot over what remained of the ruins of Caparrocchie, so that you could hardly distinguish the structure. I never thought Mr Sirignani would even have got out of the car. But we continued with our tour of the place, the surveyor listing all the technical specifications. I was amazed to see that Mr Sirignani was enchanted, he said simply ‘’this is it, this is the place’”.
After several years of hard restoration work, the ruins of Caparrocchie became the Romantik Hotel Le Silve di Armenzano in Assisi (opened in 1983).
Following the initial restoration works carried out on the Hotel, further works have been completed on the other farmsteads on the Relais Le Silve di Armenzano estate to build up the farm and the road system into what stands as the estate today.
Giuseppe still spends much of his time in his home at the Relais Le Silve di Armenzano.
His son Marco, along with wife Francesca and daughter Adriana, administers the estate with the same love and enthusiasm that fired Giuseppe.
