Get Rid of Windows Registry Errors

Did you know that fixing your registry would eventually speed up your processor? It’s true, a quick clean up on your registry can solve many problems in your computer and speeds up your machine. Many Windows malware are known to reside on the registry because that’s the last place you’d clean up. Some of these malicious registry files can be very harmful to your computer.

What is a registry in Windows OS?

The Windows Registry is the place where all the information, options, settings, and other programming values and hardware of Microsoft Windows are installed. Whenever you try and install a program in your Windows OS, a new subkey is installed in the Windows Registry. This subkey will contain all the software settings, like the software version, how the program can be started, and more.

Your system Registry will have the following details installed:

  • The drivers and other installed softwares
  • Computer hardware settings
  • Operating System settings
  • User profile information

Why a registry error occurs?

An error in the registry will slow down your system’s process and give your computer a hard time. There are several causes for Registry errors, like orphaned entries, fragmented registry, errors in system shutdown, bugs and malwares, duplication of key files, and more. Sometimes when you uninstall a program, it might leave behind a small fragment of its software files. These orphaned entries might slow down your PC.

Similarly, when you uninstall, reinstall, or update software, multiple copies might be created on the registry or the software version might duplicate itself. This will confuse the Registry fix software in your computer and it wouldn’t know which software version is the properly accessible one. Sometimes, malwares and other viruses might be sitting on the registry, wreaking havoc.

Try your hand at fixing these errors

There are a few ways to restore and clean your Registry of any trouble some software or malwares. You can very well try them for yourselves and get your Registry fixed.Boot windows in Safe Mode and open the Registry by typing regedit on the start menu. Click File – Import. The Import Registry dialogue box will open up and you can point it to the location where you have a backup for the Registry files.

You can also restore the Registry manually using the Command Prompt. This process is more technical and you need to understand some machine codes and Command Prompt codes to fix your registry. You need to open the root directory in your Command Prompt and type the registry configuration and repair codes.

If these methods don’t work out, probably your Registry files are infected by virus. During such instances, you can go for a full system restore. A previous restore point needs to be set on your PC for performing this function. If you have a restore point then you can do a full system restore, which will restore your Windows settings to an earlier point in the timeline when everything worked fine.

Make sure you don’t end up deleting or adding any duplicated to the registry files. It’s a better option to save a backup of the Registry once you install all working softwares. If you’re still finding it difficult to fix these errors, get some professional help.
